Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak is keeping Ashton Jeanty's role flexible heading into Sunday's matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

The rookie running back saw his workload shrink dramatically during the Raiders' 38-33 victory over the New York Jets. Mike Washington Jr. received 25 carries, while Jeanty managed just two rushing attempts for nine yards.
Kubiak addressed the backfield situation Monday, making it clear that the change does not necessarily signal a permanent shift in the depth chart.
"I think it's always a moving target," Kubiak said, explaining that the coaching staff will evaluate who is playing the best football and adjust opportunities accordingly. He also emphasized that Jeanty, Washington and Dylan Laube will all contribute moving forward.
Ashton Jeanty Must Adjust to Raiders' Changing Backfield
Washington's increased workload was one of the biggest developments in Las Vegas' win. The rookie recorded 83 rushing yards on 25 attempts, giving the Raiders a different look after Jeanty had struggled to establish consistency on the ground.
Jeanty still made an impact as a receiver, catching three passes for 64 yards. His ability to contribute in the passing game and provide protection gives Kubiak another reason to keep him involved even when his rushing opportunities decrease.
However, the former sixth overall pick has averaged just 3.1 yards per carry this season, creating questions about whether Washington could earn a larger share of the ground game.

The challenge gets tougher against San Francisco. The Raiders face the 49ers on Sunday, November 8, and their backfield distribution will be worth watching against a physical defense.
Kubiak has not committed to giving either running back a permanent lead role. Instead, his comments suggest that performance, preparation and the matchup will influence the weekly rotation.
For Jeanty, that means his workload is no longer guaranteed. Washington has earned an opportunity to remain involved, while Jeanty must make the most of his touches as the Raiders look to build on their win over New York.
