The Los Angeles Rams have become known for taking big swings, but they threw their biggest punch on Monday. The Rams are finalizing a trade with the Cleveland Browns for superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett , according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The return for Garrett is not finalized, but it is expected to include star defensive end Jared Verse and a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. There is expected to be other compensation included, but the deal is not official just yet.
The Rams have made a number of moves to turn around a defense that was good, but not great, in 2025. Defensive coordinator Chris Shula is still in LA after being considered for a number of head coach openings, and he will be working with a revamped secondary after adding cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson .
Now, those corners will have their job made a whole lot easier by the best non-quarterback in football. Garrett is still the best pass rusher in the league and requires double teams on just about every snap, which will make this Rams front very hard to block.
Garrett is a seven-time All-Pro who has been named Defensive Player of the Year in two of the last three seasons. In his nine-year career, he has 125.5 sacks and 149 tackles for loss. Now, he gets to play for a contending team where he will get to play big games and compete for a Super Bowl.
Even with Verse out the door, Los Angeles still has both Byron Young and Braden Fiske on the defensive line. Both are very good players in their own right, and they will both get plenty of one-on-one chances this season with Garrett attracting a lot of attention on the outside.
The Rams have a limited title window with Matthew Stafford back for another season after winning the MVP last season, but it's unclear how long the star quarterback is going to play. With moves like this, it's clear that Sean McVay and company are dead set on making it count however they can.
