Alexis Lafreniere was named the NHL's Third Star of the Week for his strong showing last week. He followed that by earning the First Star of the Game on Tuesday night.
The former top overall pick continued his spectacular start to the season, putting home two of the Rangers' four goals as they beat the Lightning to remain perfect on home ice .
Both of the tallies were set up by terrific assists from the also red-hot Tye Kartye.
The first of those came just over a minute into the game, as Kartye was relentless on the forecheck, before finding a cutting Lafreniere in front of the net for a one-time feed.
Those two connected again midway though the frame, this time on a beautiful backhand alley-oop feed that sprung Lafreniere free into the offensive zone, beating Andrei Vasilevskiywith a wrister.
"I saw he had it," Lafreniere said. "I kinda took off and I knew their d-men were low in our zone, so that gave me a chance to take off, we got a good bounce and Kart's made a great play -- it was just a great play by him."
Lafreniere pushed his point-streak to five games, and he's scored in four straight.
The 25-year-old has found the back of the net a whopping seven times over that span, not only pushing him into the team lead, but also putting him atop the entire NHL.
Lafreniere continued to be a catalyst in the Rangers' surging start.
"It feels good," he said. "It feels good to win too, especially on home ice after the way we played here last year, it feels great and the crowd was great -- it's a good feeling in the room right now."
