Once the World Series ends, the Texas Rangers will have approximately one month to complete as many transactions as possible. This is unlikely to be a normal offseason.
MLB and the MLB Players Association appear headed toward a work stoppage if they cannot agree on a new collective bargaining agreement by Dec. 1. A stoppage would prevent Texas from conducting business until both sides reach a new agreement.

If president of baseball operations Chris Young plans to make substantial roster changes , November will be the time to act. Unlike in previous years, Young may be more willing to trade players from the MLB roster.
Evan Carter has reached a stage in his career when the Rangers have fewer opportunities to emphasize his potential over his production . He hit .194/.288/.315 with nine home runs, 40 RBIs and a .602 OPS in 141 games.
Does Carter have a future with Rangers?
Texas desperately wants Carter to become an everyday center fielder who does not require a platoon partner. The organization values his glove, but his offensive limitations may eventually restrict him to a fourth or fifth outfielder role.

As long as Carter remains with Texas, the Rangers will continue trying him in center field. However, if his offensive production does not improve, then he would occupy a roster and lineup position that could belong to another player.
Texas has alternatives. Ezequiel Durán and Cameron Cauley could play center field. Wyatt Langford has primarily patrolled left field since making his MLB debut in 2024, but he possesses the defensive ability to handle center.
Trading Carter while other teams remain intrigued by his potential could help Texas maximize its return. A move would also provide him with a fresh start and allow the Rangers to create greater competition at a position that needs more offense in 2027.
Carter's continued problems against left-handed pitching became especially concerning. Late in the season, Texas used Durán in center field as a right-handed alternative against left-handers.

Carter has some value
Carter still provides excellent outfield defense, which the Rangers and potential trade partners value. Another team could be willing to send one or two prospects to Texas for him.
Moving Carter would create more playing time for Alejandro Osuna and Cody Freeman while clearing a possible pathway for Dylan Dreiling, an emerging center fielder in the Rangers' system.
Carter's defensive instincts ensure that he can contribute even when his bat is not producing. He reads the ball well, covers considerable ground and can protect pitchers by turning difficult opportunities into outs.

His remaining potential also makes this decision complicated. Carter has already demonstrated enough ability to keep teams interested, and a change of environment could help him make necessary offensive adjustments without carrying the same expectations.
He must become more comfortable against left-handed pitching and develop an approach that prevents opponents from exploiting the same weaknesses. Better contact and improved adaptability would give his defense greater everyday value.
Texas must decide whether it still has the time and patience to oversee that development. Carter offers dependable defense and untapped offensive ability, but the Rangers also possess younger alternatives who need opportunities.
Trading him would be a calculated attempt to convert potential into roster flexibility before his value declines further.
