Liam Hicks is having some start to the World Series. The Rays catcher batted in both of the team's runs in their 3-2 loss in Game 1 against the Milwaukee Brewers. That included the grounder that led to the overturned double play in the ninth inning.
And now, Hicks hit a massive two-run home run off Logan Henderson to cap off a huge four-run first inning for the Rays.
Henderson left his cutter hanging right in the middle of the plate, allowing Hicks to square up and smash the pitch. Based on his reaction, the Brewers pitcher knew right away that the ball was out of the park.
Hicks came over to Tampa Bay during a midseason deal with the Miami Marlins. He hit four home runs with 20 home runs in 41 regular-season games with the Rays. And over 142 games with both teams, he hit .284 with 18 home runs and 82 RBIs.
However, that form has not translated to the postseason, where he has hit just .194 with no home runs in 10 games heading into Game 2. Nevertheless, he has been able to contribute in a big way. With his two-run homer, he has now gotten eight RBIs during this postseason campaign, which leads the team .
Unfortunately for the Rays, ace Drew Rasmussen surrendered half of the team's four-run lead right away as the Brewers got two runs back in the bottom half of the inning. Hicks and the rest of the Rays lineup will look to provide Rasmussen with more run support as they look to even the World Series up at 1-1.
