En route to an eventual 2-1 defeat for the visitors, however, the Spanish international was a leading figure in Real's demise.
After dragging down Giuliano Simeone inside his side's penalty area, Huijsen was shown a straight red card for a last-man offence. On top of that, Atléti were awarded a penalty, which was subsequently dispatched by Alejandro Grimaldo .
During an appearance in front of the media this week, the defensive starlet therefore made use of the opportunity to own up to his shortcomings. Speaking to OK Diario, as cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano , Huijsen admitted:
"In my view, the Madrid Derby defeat is on me. It's my responsibility. We could have won the game."
