Marc Cucurella helped Real Madrid silence Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou. His wife, Claudia Rodríguez, then gave the rivalry another talking point without needing to say much at all.
Hours after Madrid's 2-1 El Clasico victory on Sunday, Rodríguez shared a cryptic message that quickly attracted attention: "Only the real ones will understand." The timing was difficult to ignore. Cucurella had played a major role in limiting Lamine Yamal's influence as Madrid secured a crucial win, and his wife's post appeared to carry a message of its own.
Rodríguez shared Instagram updates after the match, including a video call with Cucurella and a moment involving a piece of clothing that has a special meaning for the Real Madrid defender. The caption, reported as "Only the real ones will understand," added a layer of intrigue to what might otherwise have been a private celebration.
The word "real" was always going to attract attention after a victory over Barcelona. In Spanish, real means "royal," but it is also unmistakably associated with Real Madrid. With Cucurella having just helped his team win at Camp Nou, the wording was practically guaranteed to get rival supporters talking.
It is not clear whether Rodríguez intended the message as a direct dig at Barcelona or simply an affectionate celebration of her husband's performance. But the timing made it easy for fans to read it as a victory lap, particularly after the atmosphere surrounding during the match.

The clothing has a backstory that makes the post more interesting than a routine football celebration. Cucurella has previously revealed that he carries a pajama top worn by Rodríguez as a good-luck charm during major tournaments. The ritual began before Spain's triumphant Euro 2024 campaign and continued at the 2026 World Cup.
Rodríguez explained that she first packed the top for him because the couple were facing an unusually long period apart during the European Championship. She sprayed it with her perfume so Cucurella could have a familiar reminder of home while travelling with Spain. The defender, who has admitted to being superstitious, took to the gesture, and the item became part of his routine for major competitions.
The story is personal rather than provocative in itself. Rodríguez has described the top as a way of helping her husband feel close to her and their children while away. But after a victory as emotionally charged as El Clasico, even a sentimental good-luck charm can become part of the football conversation.
Rodríguez has never hidden her affection for Real Madrid. When the club announced Cucurella's move from Chelsea in June, she celebrated publicly, including by sharing a childhood photo of herself wearing a Madrid shirt. She also expressed her pride and excitement about the move, making her support for the club clear.
That history adds context to Sunday's post. Cucurella was one of Madrid's standout performers against Barcelona, helping keep Yamal quiet for long stretches. The young Barcelona winger struggled to impose himself as he usually does, while Madrid found the decisive goal through Kylian Mbappé's late strike for a 2-1 win.
For Madrid supporters, the combination of Cucurella's performance and Rodríguez's message offered another reason to celebrate. For Barcelona fans, the same post could feel like salt in the wound after a painful home defeat that ended their perfect start to the La Liga season.
Rodríguez has not publicly confirmed that the caption was aimed at Barcelona, so it would be a stretch to treat it as an outright provocation. Still, in a rivalry where every gesture is scrutinized, the message was always likely to attract attention. Madrid left Camp Nou with the three points. Cucurella's wife ensured that the conversation continued long after the final whistle.
