Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Julian Lewis was hospitalized after experiencing a medical emergency at the university's athletic facility on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Lewis' father, T.C. Lewis, shared that his son was transported to the hospital and thanked the medical team, teammates, and Colorado fans for their support. The family also asked for privacy during this time.
"Yesterday, Julian experienced a medical emergency at the University of Colorado athletic facility and was promptly transported to the hospital. He is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates and Colorado fans for their prayers and support. Please respect Julian and the Lewis family's privacy. We will have no further comment at this time," the QB's father wrote.
Lewis has not played for the Buffaloes since being benched at halftime of the game against the Baylor Bears. He was relegated to third-string quarterback behind Isaac Wilson and Kaneal Sweetwyne in the Colorado QB depth chart. The former highly rated recruit completed 61 of 95 passes for 733 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions in four games this season. Moreover, he was listed "doubtful" for Colorado's upcoming Saturday game against Kansas State.
Colorado HC Deion Sanders on Julian Lewis' Potential Return
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders named Julian Lewis as the starting quarterback ahead of the 2026 season. The former four-star recruit started strong with two straight wins before the blowout loss against the Northwestern Wildcats. He was benched at halftime in the Baylor Bears game, which Colorado lost 23-13. Since then, Sanders has started Isaac Wilson, while Lewis fell behind in the quarterback depth chart.
On Tuesday, when Sanders was asked if Lewis can reclaim his QB1 position, the Buffaloes head coach said (via 247Sports) :
"That's on him."
Sanders also defended himself against rumors that he might be hurting Lewis' career by sitting him out early in the season.
"I don't think you could find a player in this program — or you may find some bitter players that have left and didn't want to leave, but life is what it is — but I don't treat people unfairly," Sanders added. "I don't play games with young men and their careers and hate on folks. If I'm anything, I'm too forgiving and very, very kind… I don't play those games with kids. You've got to always understand that we may know a little more than you do, because we're inside the locker room. We're there. We understand what happens."
Sanders has yet to react to Lewis' latest medical emergency.
