MINNEAPOLIS — First baseman Willson Contreras ’ back tightened up while he fielded a ground ball during the third inning of the Red Sox’ 6-0 loss to the Twins on Tuesday at Target Field.
Contreras was removed in the fifth inning due to low back tightness.
“We’ll see how he feels tomorrow morning,” manager Alex Cora said. “(Head athletic trainer) Brandon (Henry) feels like it’s nothing serious, but obviously we have to be careful. He’s so important to us and we got Thursday off, so we’ll see how he feels tomorrow. And we decide if he goes.”
Contreras went 0 for 1 with a strikeout and hit by pitch before Andruw Monasterio replaced him at first base to begin the bottom of the fifth inning.
