BOSTON — With the forecast calling for rain in Boston throughout the day Sunday, the Red Sox have moved the start time of their game with the Tigers back three hours.
First pitch, originally scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET, will instead be at 4:35 p.m. ET, the club said in a release late Saturday. The change was "made in consultation with Major League Baseball due to a forecast for an extended period of rain from mid-day into the afternoon."
Tickets for Sunday's game will be good for admission at the newly scheduled time.
The Red Sox and Tigers have each have won one game apiece so far in their series with Boston walking off with a 1-0 win Friday and Tarik Skubal leading Detroit to a 4-1 victory Saturday. On Sunday, Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet will look to bounce back from a disastrous start against the Twins in Minneapolis on Monday night. The Tigers will send lefty Framber Valdez to the mound.
The teams will then meet Monday morning in the finale of their four-game series, set for the traditional Patriots Day start time of 11:10 a.m.
Sunday's time change will also allow the Red Sox to play between two playoff games for Boston teams. Game 1 of the Celtics-76ers series at TD Garden is at 1:00 p.m. and Game 1 of the Bruins-Sabres series in Buffalo is set for 7:30 p.m.
RELEASE FROM THE RED SOX:
BOSTON, MA — The Red Sox have moved the start time of their game tomorrow, Sunday, April 19, against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park from 1:35 p.m. to 4:35 p.m.
The change was made in consultation with Major League Baseball due to a forecast for an extended period of rain from mid-day into the afternoon. The 4:35 p.m. start time corresponds with a projected window of improved weather conditions later in the afternoon and provides the best opportunity to play the game on Sunday. Tickets for tomorrow's game will be good for admission at the newly scheduled time.
As we navigate tomorrow's forecast of inclement weather, the Red Sox appreciate the patience, flexibility, and understanding of their fans.
