It wasn’t just Cora that was let go; it was the hitting coach, bench coach, and others who led to Boston overhauling its staff amidst a 10-17 start to the season, via Jeff Passan of ESPN.
“The Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora, hitting coach Peter Fatse, bench coach Rámon Vazquez, and game-planning coach Jason Varitek, sources tell ESPN. While the Red Sox won today, they are 10-17 and in last in the American League East. Massive change is coming in Boston,” Passan wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
While Passan’s original post on Cora’s firing has amassed over one million views in under 30 minutes since being sent, it’s also led to several thoughts from fans.
Reactions to the Red Sox firing Alex Cora
There was a ton of comments under Passan’s posts from Red Sox fans and baseball fans alike, talking about Cora’s firing, especially highlighting the irony of the team deciding the 17-1 win on Saturday. One user on X named “@TatumCeltics” would note this.

“I love how this, of all days, is the day we actually fire him,” the user wrote, referring to the 17-1 win.
Another would make fun of the fact that Boston let go of a number of coaches, with “@ladyredsoxxx” asking a dire question.
“Are we going to have any coaches for tomorrows game[?]” the user wrote.
While some are arguing that Cora is the “scapegoat” for Boston’s problems, others are celebrating the move, with “@CsyGang” posting an image of actor Christian Bale from the 1999 film “American Psycho,” with text showing his approval .
“The masculine urge to say ‘we’re back’ one day after saying it’s over,” the comment read.
At any rate, it remains to be seen when Boston finds its next manager as the team is 10-17.
