“Somebody just told me to kill myself,” Duran said. “I’m used to it at this point. I mean, (expletive) happens. I’m gonna flip somebody off if they say something to me. But it is what it is. I shouldn’t react like that. But that kind of stuff is still kind of triggering. So it happens.”
Duran opened up about his prior suicide attempt in the Netflix documentary, " The Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox ," released April 8, 2025.
“Honestly, it’s my fault for talking about my mental health because I kind of brought in the haters,” Duran said. “So it’s something I’ve got to get used to.”
This is not the first time Duran claimed this happened. He stared and pointed into the stands at a fan at Cleveland ’s Progressive Field on April 27, 2025, after the fan told him, “Go (expletive) kill yourself ."

Manager Alex Cora was unaware that Duran gave the middle finger to the fan when asked about it during his postgame press conference. The Red Sox lost 6-0 to Minnesota .
“I haven’t seen it. I just got back to the clubhouse,” Cora said.
Duran added, “I didn’t really tell anybody so like, that’s on me. Just trying to hold it in and not really bring that up to the team. We’re trying to win a game. I shouldn’t even bring that up to anybody. It’s not really something I want to be like, Bro, you should have heard what this guy said to me.’ That’s not the most important thing. The most important thing is win the game and yeah, it just happens.”
If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, you are not alone.
