Red Sox Legend David Ortiz Calls Out Yankees in Way New York Fans Can't Disagree With originally appeared on NESN . Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
Boston Red Sox fans had to be happy to see how poorly the New York Yankees played in the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays, as the Rays swept them.
After losing to the Yankees in the Wild Card round, the Red Sox have their own problems to figure out, but Red Sox fans will always be happy to see the Yankees lose.
As for the Yankees, it feels like something is going on behind the scenes that has caused some of their struggles in recent years, especially when it matters most. The Yankees just can't seem to get over that hump, and Red Sox legend David Ortiz says it's because they lack an identity.
"Look, I never played for the Yankees but I competed a lot against the Yankees," Ortiz told Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter and Kevin Burkhardt on Fox , per Boston.com.
"And there's one thing that I can see missing from the Yankees, and it's the culture. There's a lot of little things that in the long run, they start catching up. And those things never happened when you guys were there.
"They need to start paying attention to those little things because you need to have that one player in the clubhouse that gets those things put away."
That Yankees culture used to make them the best team in Major League Baseball by a wide margin, though it's been a very long time since last said that.
The Red Sox, at least by comparison, have found much more success than New York over the past decade or so.
Ortiz makes a fair point that the Yankees just don't have the same culture they once did.
That's a problem for New York, and the organization will have to figure it out over the next couple of months if it wants to improve.
