The Red Sox have still not signed a free agent to a major league deal but continue to pad their organizational depth with non-roster signees on minor league pacts.
The latest addition to surface is right-handed pitcher Devin Sweet , who signed a minor league deal in December, according to the club's transactions log. Sweet, 29, is a reliever with some major league experience. It's likely he got a non-roster invite to major league spring training.
Sweet, a North Carolina native who attended NC Central, reached the majors in 2023, struggling to a 10.38 ERA in seven games split between Seattle and Oakland. A former undrafted free agent, Sweet has spent the last few years bouncing around the league, spending time with the Giants, Tigers and Phillies organization. He spent 2025 with the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate in Lehigh Valley. In 51 ⅓ innings over 46 games (2 starts), Sweet logged a 5.08 ERA. He struck out 49 batters and walked 27 and was on the 40-man roster through July before being designated for assignment.
Sweet seems ticketed for a bulk relief role at Triple-A Worcester, where he'll serve as depth. The Red Sox have already added a handful of non-roster invitees to their spring roster, among them pitchers Alec Gamboa, Hobie Harris and Osvaldo Berrios, catcher Jason Delay and infielder Vinny Capra . Outfielder Matt Fraizer , who agreed to terms earlier this week, didn't get a major league spring training invite on his deal.
