Red Sox's Roman Anthony Could Be Heavily Impacted by MLB Lockout for This Reason originally appeared on NESN . Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The lockout in Major League Baseball is expected to have a bigger impact than some realize.
That could have even been part of the reason why the Boston Red Sox decided not to bring up Franklin Arias at the end of the season, as putting him on the 40-man roster wouldn't have allowed him to be in the facility during the offseason.
It's a very unfortunate reality that players have to deal with over the next couple of months, but it doesn't look like that's going to change in the near future. In fact, there's an expectation that baseball will be in a lockout once December starts, and it will affect more players than just the guys due for contracts.
That includes the possibility of it impacting Roman Anthony, who isn't expected to have offseason surgery and only needs some rest.
While the Red Sox would love to see how he looks throughout this process, as he's arguably the most important player for the future of this organization, the lockout will affect what Boston can do with him.
"There is no doubt Major League Baseball and the owners will lock out the players when the collective bargaining agreement expires Dec. 1. That means all communication between teams and players will cease.
"That gives the Sox just under two months to work with Roman Anthony and his agents on a plan to get him fully healthy for 2027. Otherwise, it could be months before they speak again," the Boston Globe reported .
While Anthony and the Red Sox won't be able to speak, and more specifically, he won't be able to be in the facility down in Fort Myers, there are some other ways around this, ones that the Red Sox will need to take.
Still, the lockout won't be ideal for many reasons, and this is just one of them.
