The Detroit Red Wings have not had the best start to the 2026-27 NHL season. Detroit has struggled on the ice and is dealing with off-ice drama. But there is one thing this team can rely on. Moritz Seider will come up big when they need him most.
The Edmonton Oilers were applying pressure on rookie goalie Michal Postava on Monday night. However, Seider took away Edmonton's biggest offensive threat. The Red Wings star shadowed Connor McDavid all over the ice . He denied multiple scoring chances and eventually took the puck out of the defensive zone near the end of the second period.
This could have been a disaster for the Red Wings. Had McDavid and the Oilers scored, it would have put Detroit at a deficit entering the third period. McDavid is certainly capable of it, too. The Edmonton captain already has a point in this contest. Furthermore, he leads all skaters with 34 points through 12 games.
The Oilers and Red Wings traded goals early in the third period to make it a 2-2 game. These teams continued searching for that go-ahead goal, and one finally found the back of the net. Edmonton's Colton Dach scored on a deflected shot to give his team the lead late in the third.
Seider did what the Red Wings needed him to do again after Dach's goal. The Red Wings star provided an assist on Dylan Larkin's second goal of the season to tie the game 3-3. Both of these teams want to come away with a win. It seems as if they'll need another period of play to settle this one.
