The Detroit Red Wings hit the road to kick off their November schedule, squaring off against the Florida Panthers in their newly debuted hometown remix jerseys at Amerant Bank Arena. The Red Wings took the first game of their Florida back-to-back series with a 5-3 win over the Panthers thanks to two-two point players in Justin Faulk and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard alongside Carter Mazur 's first NHL goal.

Mazur's first period goal would be answered by Sam Reinhart after Daniil Tarasov misplayed a puck along the boards, leading to a turnover in the Red Wings zone. The Panthers would slip the puck through the cracks in the Red Wings defense for Reinhart to fire a wrist shot over Tarasov's shoulder to tie things up by the end of the frame.
The Red Wings would regain the lead a minute and a half into the second period with an early goal from Alex DeBrincat . Detroit would give up a shorthanded goal later in the period after a turnover near Florida netminder Jacob Markstrom led to a three-on-two rush going the other way.
However, Faulk would collect his second point of the night on the power play to give the Red Wings the lead from the blueline. Brandsegg-Nygard potted his third goal of the season to give Detroit their first two goal advantage of the night at 4-2.
The Panthers would pull Markstrom early, with Sam Bennett clawing one goal back to make it 4-3 with 3:20 left. However, Emmitt Finnie would put the game away in the final seconds of the game by potting an empty netter to make the final score 5-3.
Takeaways
The Red Wings are still learning to play with the big boys in the league, losing the lead twice before managing to hold it for the third period… Brandsegg-Nygard continues to build his Calder Trophy case with a two point night… Detroit will need to play a more consistent game tomorrow night against the Lightning tomorrow night.
Key Moment
Faulk scored the Red Wings only power play goal of the night in the third period, giving the team their third, and final lead of the night.
"I thought goalies on both sides played well. We won the special teams battle, so at the end of the night, to win in this building you have to have all of that and maybe sometimes more." Head coach Todd McLellan said.
Key Stat
By the second intermission the Panthers had a 2:1 hit ration on the Red Wings and had managed to keep the game tied despite the Red Wings holding the penalty advantage. While Detroit was able to hold off the physical offensive attack of the Panthers, the Red Wings were clearly playing on their back heels with one power play goal and a shorthanded goal against tonight.
"It's a tough building to go into," Brandsegg-Nygard said, "They play hard, and I felt, or I thought we played hard back."
