Sam Reinhart certainly loves playing against the Buffalo Sabres — and he got going with the Florida Panthers on Monday afternoon.
Reinhart, who spent the first seven seasons of his NHL career with the Sabres, scored twice on the power play but it was not enough for the Panthers as Buffalo scored twice in the third for a 5-3 win.
Florida (2-2-2) has lost two straight in regulation.
The Panthers came into the game with the NHL's worst-producing power play with one goal in 28 tries. Reinhart had them 2-for-2 to kick things off Monday.
Reinhart also scored his first goals of the season with those two in the second period.
The second-overall pick of the 2014 NHL Draft by the Sabres after Florida took Aaron Ekblad , Reinhart tied the score at 2-2 and 3-3 with his goals on Monday.
Florida trailed 2-1 going into the second period — with starter Jacob Markstrom not coming out after making nine saves on 11 shots in the opening 20.
Akira Schmid replaced Markstrom to start the second and finished the game. Markstrom did not return to the Florida bench with an apparent injury.
Buffalo also made a goalie change but this was based on performance. After Reinhart got his first goal to make it 2-2, Colten Elliswas pulled.
The score was tied at 3 going into the third but the Sabres — who never trailed — made it 4-3 on a power-play goal by Noah Ostlundbefore Tage Thompson scored off the rush to give Buffalo a two-goal lead.
