- Remembering Comerica Park: Miguel Cabrera’s 3,000th Hit
(USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect)
Welcome back to the Remembering Comerica Park series here at Roundtable, where we'll spend the entire offseason looking back at some of the greatest memories made at the historic ballpark.
Though the stadium that has created so many memories over the last 26 years isn't going anywhere, the name certainly is. Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers for the past 26 years, is entering a new chapter as the team prepares to play at Fifth Third Park following the recently announced name change.

With that, we want to remember the greatest moments , both good and bad, from Comerica Park. Today, we're looking back at the game when Miguel Cabrera recorded his 3,000th career hit.
The Colorado Rockies were in town, and many fans had purchased tickets to see the first game of the series. However, Mother Nature had other plans, forcing the game to be postponed for one more day.
That brought us to April 23, 2022, a Saturday when the Tigers and Rockies were scheduled to play a doubleheader. Fans packed Comerica Park at a time when Detroit had gone nearly a decade without making the playoffs. It was a rare sight to see.
They weren't there just to watch the Detroit Tigers. They were there to see one man and one man only: Miguel Cabrera.

Cabrera was sitting on the doorstep of 3,000 career hits, waiting to etch his name even further into the MLB record books.
It was a packed house, and no one wanted to say they missed the game when Cabrera reached the milestone. It was a rare sight, and in my opinion, it will become even rarer to see a player remain productive long enough to reach 3,000 hits.
The restless fans who came to witness history didn't have to wait long. In the first inning, Cabrera delivered a signature opposite-field hit, splitting the first and second basemen to reach the milestone.
With that hit, Cabrera became the third Detroit Tiger to record 3,000 career hits, the 33rd player in MLB history to accomplish the feat and the first Venezuelan-born player to reach the milestone.

Time seemed to stand still. Everyone cheered as Comerica Park erupted into a standing ovation. His former teammate, José Iglesias, who was playing for Colorado at the time, was the first to come over and embrace Cabrera after the historic hit.
The entire Tigers team soon followed, with players, coaches and staff coming onto the field to congratulate Cabrera. The fans stood in awe, refusing to quiet down or take their seats as they gave one of the greatest players in franchise history the respect he deserved.
Detroit won the game 13-1, with Tarik Skubal starting on the mound. But no one will remember the final score or who took the mound that afternoon. They'll remember a moment that had happened only 33 times in Major League Baseball history.
Cabrera's time in Detroit didn't end the way many of us had hoped, but it began with a bang. He won an American League MVP award after capturing baseball's Triple Crown, helped lead the Tigers to the World Series and, year after year, reminded baseball fans just how much fun it can be to play the sport you love.

Cabrera will be remembered as a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Although he never brought a World Series championship to Detroit, he made a home here, and within that home, he etched his name into baseball history.
As we look back on the memories made at Comerica Park, we'll never forget the day Miguel Cabrera recorded his 3,000th hit in front of a packed house of fans who knew they were witnessing something special.
