According to transfer journalist Pete O'Rourke , Liverpool have "accepted an offer" from Bolton for the versatile 22-year-old, opening the door for a move that could finally provide the regular senior football Stephenson has been chasing throughout his career.
The report emerged on Wednesday afternoon and, while details of the agreement have yet to be confirmed, the expectation is that Bolton are now well placed to secure the signature of one of Liverpool's most promising academy graduates.
Dundee Success Raised Stephenson's Stock
Luca Stephenson's reputation has grown significantly during his two-year spell with Dundee United. Although opportunities at Liverpool remained limited, his performances north of the border ensured his development continued on an upward trajectory.

The midfielder, who is equally comfortable operating in defence, became an important figure for Dundee United. Across two seasons he amassed 67 appearances and earned widespread praise for his consistency and maturity.
Dundee manager Jim Goodwin was among his biggest admirers. Speaking earlier this year, Goodwin described Stephenson as a "standout" performer and one of Dundee United's "most consistent performers".
Those displays inevitably attracted attention from clubs further down the English football pyramid. Bolton's interest appears to have been the strongest, with the League One side now close to completing a deal that could prove one of the shrewdest pieces of business of the summer.
Bolton Opportunity Arrives at Perfect Time
For all his promise, the pathway into Liverpool's first team remained difficult for Stephenson.

Now approaching his 23rd birthday and still waiting for an official senior appearance for Liverpool, the timing feels right for a permanent move. While he featured in several pre-season matches, competitive opportunities never arrived.
Bolton can offer something Liverpool simply could not guarantee: regular first-team football.
Steven Schumacher's side are building an ambitious project and view Stephenson as a player capable of strengthening multiple areas of the squad. His versatility is particularly attractive, with the former Liverpool youngster able to operate as a central midfielder, full-back or centre-back when required.
The move would also allow Stephenson to continue testing himself in a demanding environment while taking on greater responsibility at senior level.

Injury Setbacks Could Not Halt Progress
Stephenson's development has not always been straightforward.
A number of injury problems interrupted his momentum at various stages of his career, preventing him from fully capitalising on opportunities when they arose. Despite those setbacks, he consistently demonstrated resilience and professionalism.
That determination was evident throughout his time at Dundee, where he became a trusted member of the squad and a player supporters quickly came to appreciate.
Rather than allowing injuries to define his progress, Stephenson continued to improve his tactical understanding and technical quality. Those qualities have played a major role in attracting Bolton's attention.

Fresh Start Beckons for Luca Stephenson
Every academy player dreams of making it at Liverpool, but the reality is that not every talented youngster can break into an elite first-team squad packed with international stars.
For Luca Stephenson, a move to Bolton may ultimately provide the platform needed to fulfil his considerable potential.
Pete O'Rourke's report that Liverpool have accepted an offer suggests the transfer is advancing quickly, and all parties are likely to see benefits from the arrangement. Liverpool can generate a fee from a homegrown player, Bolton can add a proven performer with significant upside, and Stephenson gains the opportunity to establish himself as a regular senior footballer.

His excellent work at Dundee United demonstrated that he possesses the quality to thrive away from Merseyside. Now, with Bolton circling and an agreement reportedly in place, the next chapter of his career appears ready to begin.
