Last weekend the NFL took center stage with the annual April Draft . The Minnesota Vikings had the 18th overall pick and used it on polarizing defensive tackle Caleb Banks .
For years the NFL Draft has been among the greatest spectacles of the spring. For less years, it has been something fans can attend as something of a traveling road show. Previously hosted in New York at Radio City Music Hall, it now travels around the country each year to bring fans closer to the action.
Pittsburgh played host city in 2026. In 2027 Washington, D.C. will be the backdrop on the National Mall in front of the U.S. Capitol Building. The expectation is that Minneapolis will land the honor in 2028 .

U.S. Bank Stadium is among the most impressive venues across the NFL. After being erected, it hosted Super Bowl LII on February 4, 2018. Now the looming belief is that the NFL Draft will take place on the grounds in 2028.
Nothing is official, but in league circles Minnesota's bid is considered the favorite to be awarded the 2028 NFL draft. Would be centered in and around U.S. Bank Stadium. https://t.co/pGMYPSNA19

The Vikings had put their city in for a bid, and Minnesotans had been hoping it would be well-received. According to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert , it sounds as though the only thing looming is an official announcement.
While U.S. Bank Stadium has been praised for it’s impressive interior, it will be the exterior that is shown off during the NFL Draft. It’s likely that the Minnesota Vikings still host a draft party inside the stadium, but the stage and setup for the actual event will take place outside.

Although nothing is currently set in stone, the assumption would be that the NFL utilizes The Commons space to the west of the stadium. This area has often housed pregame concerts, and will be more than adequate to accommodate a sizable crowd.
One factor the NFL and event goers will have to hope on is positive weather. This year opening night of the NFL Draft carried a temperature of 72 degrees, with mid 50’s to low 60’s being the case throughout the weekend. However, just days later Minneapolis saw dips into the high 30’s and low 40’s.
With the NFL Draft being an outdoor event, the more cooperative Mother Nature wants to be in April, the better. Unfortunately that’s never a given during spring in Minnesota. Either way, you can expect fans to show out in droves. More than 800,000 turned out in Pittsburgh over the three day event, and momentum won’t slow any time soon.
