The New Orleans Saints ' running back room has taken another significant hit. Ty Chandler suffered a knee injury during Saturday's preseason loss to the Los Angeles Rams , one that is feared to be serious, per NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill . Chandler is still going through the evaluation process, but Underhill noted that he is expected to be "down for a while." No specific diagnosis or recovery timeline has been reported yet, so the Saints will need to wait for further testing before knowing exactly how much time Chandler could miss.

Chandler carried the ball six times for 21 yards against the Rams. He also lost a fumble near the goal line during the second half of the Saints' 34-0 loss.

The injury is especially concerning considering the growing number of issues in the team's backfield . Alvin Kamara is expected to miss time with a sprained MCL, while Devin Neal is dealing with a hamstring injury. Kendre Miller also just recently returned after missing time with a back issue.

New Orleans did add some insurance Sunday night by acquiring veteran RB Zamir White from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for linebacker Deion Jones . The move had already made sense given the team's injury situation, but Chandler's potentially significant absence makes the additional depth even more important. White has appeared in 45 regular-season games during his NFL career, rushing for 736 yards and two touchdowns. He spent his first four seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders before joining San Francisco in August.

Chandler signed a one-year deal with the Saints this offseason after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Minnesota Vikings . He dealt with a knee injury last season as well, missing 14 games before returning late last year. Now, with roster cuts approaching and injuries continuing to pile up, the RB depth chart in New Orleans has quickly become one of the biggest situations to monitor.
