Eflin underwent the procedure Wednesday in Arlington, Texas, where Dr. Keith Meister repaired a torn ulnar collateral ligament, ending his 2026 season and beginning a rehabilitation process that will likely extend into 2027.
He exited his first start on March 31 against the Texas Rangers after experiencing elbow discomfort. Subsequent imaging and evaluation confirmed the severity of the injury, prompting a second opinion before the decision to proceed with surgery.
BaltimoreBaseball.com's Rich Dubroff shared the update on X, formerly Twitter, reporting the outcome following the Orioles' announcement.
" Zach Eflin had Tommy John surgery today, performed in Arlington, Texas by Dr. Keith Meister. #Orioles say it was successful."
MASNSports.com's Roch Kubatko also confirmed additional details on the platform, noting the procedure required full reconstruction of the ligament rather than a less invasive treatment option.

"RHP Zach Eflin had successful right elbow UCL reconstruction today with Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, TX. Per #Orioles."
Kubatko's report reiterated the severity of the injury, confirming that rest or rehabilitation was not a viable option and that full reconstruction was necessary. The update points to a lengthy recovery timeline for the veteran right-hander.
The development carries significant repercussions for Baltimore's rotation . The 32-year-old was expected to provide stability after re-signing with the club in the offseason and stepping into a key role within the staff.

With him sidelined, the club must now rely on internal depth to cover innings and stabilize the rotation moving forward. His absence places added pressure on the pitching staff as the Orioles navigate the remainder of the season without one of their veteran anchors, forcing adjustments across multiple roles and increasing the burden on both starters and relievers to maintain consistency.
