Rex Ryan unfairly calls out Minkah Fitzpatrick after Jets loss to Raiders originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
It looks like the New York Jets ' situation is ready to boil over once again, a very concerning sign for a team that was hoping for things to improve after a couple of decades of disappointing play.
The harsh reality for the Jets at the moment is that this team just isn't ready to compete at a high enough level, whether it be the talent, coaching staff, or anything in between.
As the Jets get prepared for what they want to do at this year's trade deadline, perhaps some players are quietly asking to be moved. One of those guys might be Minkah Fitzpatrick, who some believe said that the Jets are just being the Jets after another rough loss to the Las Vegas Raiders .
A Jets spokesperson came out and said that he said the Jets are beating themselves, but regardless, it was taken the wrong way, and former New York head coach Rex Ryan had a lot to say about that.
"Oh yeah that's…" Ryan said , H/T Heavy. "I can tell you one thing I know DeMario Davis is a leader. I can promise you that… This obviously was not him. This had to be Minkah Fitzpatrick talking like this. You brought him in not because you thought he was a great player, because you thought he could bring some leadership… but he's a shell of himself. This is not the same guy.
"We don't need you to go against us. We need you to build this team up. And my understanding is that he meant we're killing ourselves but it certainly didn't come out that way… this is horrendous. If this is actually how he feels then adios… don't let the door his you in the [expletive]. "
I don't fully disagree with what Ryan is trying to say here, but I also think he has to understand that Fitzpatrick has every right to be disappointed and frustrated with everything going on in New York.
This is a guy who has won a lot throughout his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers , and anything that results in what we've seen over the past couple of weeks for the Jets is typically going to get frustrated reactions from veterans like him.
Whether that was him sneakily asking to be traded is one thing, but I think Ryan needs to understand that guys are rightfully frustrated, even as much as he loves the Jets.
