The Colorado Rockies and reliever Jordan Romano are reportedly in agreement on a contract, according to Thomas Harding. It is a minor league deal for Romano, who most recently pitched for the Los Angeles Angels before getting designated for assignment and later released.
"Source: #Rockies have reached a Minor League contract with RHP Jordan Romano, most recently with the #Angels. Before entering game action, Romano will report to the team's performance lab in Scottsdale, Ariz," Harding reported.
The Rockies have endured an up and down 2026 MLB season up to this point. Romano, 33, struggled with the Angels, but he has a proven track record at the MLB level. He recorded a lackluster 10.13 ERA across 11 outings with LA before getting designated for assignment. In 2022 and 2023, however, Romano was an All-Star with the Toronto Blue Jays and saved exactly 36 games in each of those seasons.
Romano may not be that same pitcher at this point in his career, but the Rockies are always in need of more pitching. Taking a chance on a veteran reliever like Romano is an understandable move despite his difficult performance with the Angels.
Colorado is currently 14-22 overall. The ball club is tied with the San Francisco Giants for last place in the National League West standings. The Rockies have gone 4-6 over their past 10 games.
Colorado is set to host the New York Mets on Wednesday night in the second contest of a three-game series. The Mets won the first game by a final score of 4-2. First pitch for Wednesday's contest is scheduled for 9:20 PM EST.
