The Marquette men's basketball team knows that its three young cornerstones are returning next season.
Nigel James Jr., a 6-foot guard, used winning the Big East freshman of the year last week in New York as a platform to say that he wants to finish his college career with the Golden Eagles.
After MU lost its first-round game against Xavier in the Big East tournament , Adrien Stevens and Royce Parham both made it clear they were committed to helping the Golden Eagles bounce back from a 12-20 season.
"We talk about it a lot," Stevens said in the locker room after the defeat. "We want to help the program win. And us three, doing that together, is the best way for that to happen."
But in a college basketball landscape of constant player movement with the NCAA transfer portal, it doesn't hurt to reassure fans that important pieces will be back. Parham and Stevens made it official this week on social media.
After a breakout sophomore season , the 6-foot-8 Parham made a simple announcement on March 19, posting a highlight montage with "Home" as the caption.
Stevens, who assumed a starting spot as a freshman in December, echoed a similar message with his post on March 17, stating "This is home, let's run it back."
James averaged a team-high 16.4 points and 4.9 assists per game. Stevens proved to be an ideal backcourt mate for James and was the team's top 3-point shooter at 37.5%. Parham overcame early struggles to average 12.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
"Why would we stop going after what we came here to do?" Stevens said in New York. "It doesn't matter what happened before, it doesn't matter what's going to happen in the future. We're just going after it every day, just get better.
"We're trying to win for the name on front of the jersey, just keep going."
