Rutgers football will be joining an increasingly long list of college football programs who will be ending a longtime spring tradition.
The Scarlet Knights will not be playing a spring game this year, coach Greg Schiano announced March 11 at the team's Pro Day. The annual Scarlet-White game had traditionally capped spring practices, which this year will begin March 27.
Schiano said the spring game is "not in the best interests of our program."

While Schiano did not elaborate on the reason, Rutgers has dealt with injuries in recent seasons. Doing away with the spring game will eliminate the potential risk and should help the team stay healthy heading into training camp.
The Scarlet Knights will hold their first two spring practices March 27 and 28 before following a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday schedule for the remainder of the 15 sessions.
