Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff could have some lineup decisions to make on the eve of Game 6 against the Boston Bruins . Logan Stanley, one of the team's prized trade deadline additions , is battling an illness that could take him out of the game, opening the door for New Hampshire native Michael Kesselring to enter the Sabres' lineup.
Kesselring was going to be an important piece of Buffalo's defense corps at the beginning of the season, but things haven't been going as smoothly as the team thought. If you ask the Sabres' front office, Kesselring might've been the key piece in the JJ Peterka trade return, but luckily for them, Josh Doan has been a stud for Buffalo to save that trade. Nevertheless, Kesselring could have his chance to make an impact , according to NHL.com's Justin Alpert.
"It kind of depends on how [Stanley's] feeling, but I mean, Game 6 in my hometown, I couldn't be more excited if I get the opportunity," said Kesselring. "… I've been watching close, so I'll be ready to go if I do get to play."
Kesselring didn't just grow up as a youth hockey player in the New England area. He also played his college hockey at Northeastern, making his way into the lineup for Game 6, the kind of story that can become an epic moment in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. If Kesselring does get in the lineup, don't be surprised if he has a big impact for the Sabres as they attempt to win their first playoff series since 2007.
