The Buffalo Sabres need a win in Game 6 over the Montreal Canadiens to keep their season alive. Buffalo lost Game 5 on home ice after dominating the first period. They trail 3-2 in the series, but thankfully, Rasmus Dahlin led by example early in Game 6.
The Sabres captain did not waste any time getting his team going. He scored an unbelievable goal to make it a 1-0 game just 32 seconds into the contest. Buffalo had the lead and momentum early on at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Unfortunately for Dahlin, the Sabres were unable to hold on to this lead. About a minute later, defenseman Arbwr Xhekaj scored to tie the game for the Canadiens. Ivan Demidov and Jake Evans added goals to make it 3-1, though Buffalo did pull it back to a one-goal deficit before the end of the first period.
Dahlin is one of the best defensemen in the NHL at this time. He finished this season as a finalist for the Norris Memorial Trophy as the best defenseman in the league. This postseason, he has three goals and nine points, including the goal he scored on Saturday night.
The Sabres have once again been plagued by goaltending issues. Montreal finished the first period with just five shots on goal. However, the Habs were able to score on each of their first three shots of the contest.
Buffalo will need to pull themselves together if they wish to get back into this one. If they can’t, their season will end sooner than Dahlin and his teammates want it to.
