The New Orleans Saints are only days away from opening up the season against the Detroit Lions . With expectations a bit higher compared to last season, a win in Week 1 could be massive to start the year. The Lions are going to be a very competitive team in 2026, and although they have dealt with some injuries, they will still be a tough opponent.
Speaking of health, the Saints have also dealt with their fair share of injuries. Starters, backups, and other depth options have been ruled out for the entire season or are missing a short amount of time. Overall, the Saints should be able to deal with most of the injured players, but it's still an issue. If more injuries occur in the starting lineup, the Saints could begin to have some major problems right when the season begins.
Yesterday, the injury report was not horrible for New Orleans . Only 4 players (not including Davon Godchaux , who was resting) were listed: Rookie TE Oscar Delp , RB Audric Estime , EDGE Cam Jordan , and RB Alvin Kamara . Everyone besides Kamara did not participate in practice, while Kamara was limited. The only player we knew the official status for the game was Jordan, which was revealed earlier in the week. Dealing with a hamstring issue, Jordan would be out for Week 1.
For the other three players, their official designations for Sunday were released today, and mostly, it wasn't great for the Saints. Delp and Estime are now ruled out for Sunday, while Kamara is questionable. There is an expectation that the veteran RB will be able to play, but there is still a chance he doesn't.
With Delp being out, the TE room can deal with it, but it's still a hit to what the Saints want to do. Utilizing more TEs in the offense was successful for the Saints last year, and doing that even more is a clear priority for Kellen Moore. With Delp being out, the Saints lose a potential weapon that can make winning plays, but I would not be surprised to see the Saints call up a TE from the practice squad for Sunday.
Regarding Estime, he was going to be RB4 in this offense, but if Kamara does end up being ruled out, he would have an important role. Like with the Delp injury, the Saints are likely going to call up a player, and Zamir White would make sense.
