Samuel Mbangula made history on his first start for Bologna, scoring a hat-trick in a memorable 4-2 victory over AC Milan at San Siro.
The Belgian forward had waited four matches for his first goal since joining Bologna, but made up for lost time with a stunning performance that matched a feat last achieved by Gabriel Batistuta almost three decades ago.
Batistuta scored all three goals in Fiorentina 's 3-1 victory over Milan at San Siro in 1998. Since then, no visiting player had managed to score a hat-trick against the Rossoneri at their home ground.
Mbangula , who developed at Juventus before joining Werder Bremen, returned to Italian football during the latest transfer window. His move to Bologna initially brought limited playing time, but he took full advantage of his first start to deliver a performance that will be remembered by the club's supporters.
His contribution also helped Bologna achieve another milestone. The Rossoblu had never previously scored four goals against Milan away from home in the Italian Championship, with their only other four-goal haul against the Rossoneri coming in a domestic cup competition.
The victory also ended Bologna's lengthy wait for a positive result at San Siro. They had gone 10 years without an away win against Milan, recording eight defeats and two draws during that period.
Their previous victory at the stadium had come in 2016, but Mbangula's hat-trick helped bring that run to an end in emphatic fashion.
