Over the last couple of years, the San Francisco 49ers have had extremely bad luck on the injury front. Through the first two weeks of the 2026 NFL season, the team has gone 2-0. Unfortunately, bad injury news has struck again early in the year.
According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Bosa is going to miss some time following a calf injury.
"Five-time Pro-Bowl DE Nick Bosa pulled his calf during Thursday's practice and now is expected to miss 'a few weeks,' including Sunday's game vs. the Cardinals, sources tell me and @RapSheet," Schefter reported on X . "The team is figuring out whether or not Bosa needs to be placed on injured reserve."
Last season, the 49ers saw Bosa go down with a torn ACL early in the year. When healthy, he is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. Recently, he has been unable to stay on the field.
With Bosa scheduled to miss some time early in the year, San Francisco may need more help off of the edge. An intriguing veteran name has been suggested as a potential target the 49ers could consider.

San Francisco 49ers Connected to 77-Sack Free Agent Pass Rusher
Shortly after the news of Bosa's injury was revealed, one San Francisco insider brought up the idea of signing his brother, Joey Bosa .
Akash Anavarathan of Niners Nation suggested that the older Bosa could make sense to pursue in his younger brother's absence.
"Have to wonder if the 449ers are going to call Joey Bosa, as they desperately need EDGE rushers," Anavarathan wrote . "Not sure how long Nick Bosa's going to be out and Mykel Williams isn't an option until Week 5."
During the 2026 NFL offseason, the 49ers were connected in the rumor mill to the older Bosa on multiple occasions. No deal ended up materializing. Whether or not Bosa wants to return to the NFL for another year remains to be seen.
Bosa is now 31 years old. He has dealt with more than his fair share of injury problems throughout his career as well. In 122 career games played with the Los Angeles Chargers and Buffalo Bills , Bosa has racked up 372 total tackles to go along with 77 sacks, 22 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and five defended passes.
It will be interesting to see where San Francisco turns without Bosa on the field. There is a legitimate chance the 49ers could show interest in the older Bosa, but at this point in time it's all speculation.
