While the playoffs are in full swing in Major League Baseball with the ALCS and NLCS underway, other teams have still made some decisions on players around the league.
That includes the Philadelphia Phillies , who have reportedly re-signed Tim Mayza, who spent seven seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays from 2017 to 2024, and the New York Yankees in the second half of 2024.
According to the latest report, the Phillies have re-signed the veteran, who has been with the organization for the past three years. He got a $2.75 million contract.
"The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to a one-year contract with Tim Mayza, the veteran lefty who emerged last season as a reliable middle reliever, in their first transaction of this offseason. "Mayza's deal is for $2.75 million, according to league sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss personnel moves that had not been finalized," Matt Gelb reported .
With the potential lockout looming around Major League Baseball, it's smart for a guy like Mayza just to get his deal figured out right now.
There's no reason to mess around, since there's a strong argument that it will affect players like him. Mayza has been decent throughout a lot of his career, owning a 3.48 ERA last season in 60 appearances.
He probably had too big of a role in Philadelphia, but that was more of a factor of what its bullpen was. During some of his prior stops with Toronto, he looked to be very good, including in 2023 when he posted a 1.52 ERA in 69 outings.
