We all know how Michael Irvin is sensitive about theDallas Cowboys. The former Cowboys wide receiver has even put his precious locks on the line if Dallas doesn't reach the NFC Championship Game this season. This time, it's Emmanuel Acho who has rubbed Irvin the wrong way for his take on LeSean McCoy being better than former Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith. Acho was let go by FOX Sports in 2025 after The Facility, which he co-hosted with McCoy, was cancelled. He now runs the Speakeasy podcast with McCoy.
Acho's bold take wasn't just a quiet opinion. It quickly went viral across social media and sparked heavy backlash from NFL fans, many of whom slammed it as an 'insane' disrespect to the league's all-time rushing leader. Seeing the argument gain momentum online, Irvin felt he had no choice but to step up on his podcast and shut down a narrative that was starting to confuse casual football fans.

For Irvin, this wasn't just a regular debate; it was about protecting the legacy of a running back who anchored a dynasty, which is why he addressed Acho's platform directly.
"Bro, shut the hell up,"Irvin did not mince his wordson his Netflix podcast The White House with Michael Irvin. "Listen, I'm a fan of what you do, bro, and I watch you convince and confuse others. But not by me, I'm telling you. I hear people talking about this in the discussion, and I think it's some of the most stupid s— I ever hear when we're talking about football. He's more elusive than Emmitt.
"Elusiveness looks good, it's nice, but then you throw in little s— like, well, if you want to give Emmitt some credit, the pieces I'll give him credit for, that's just like durability and contact balance. That's the most important s—- with what we do. If you can stay on your feet, that's how you win games. In no way is Shady McCoy better than Emmitt Smith. In no f—— way. Go to sleep, dream, wake up tomorrow, come back again, it'll still be the same. Shady is great. Emmitt is greatness. There's a difference between the two."

"With my eyes, I believe that Shady McCoy is a more talented running back than Emmitt Smith," Acho said. "The conversation he's having is a conversation about talent. When you're playing behind maybe the greatest O-line in the history of football, having incredible durability and contact balance, that probably trumps elusiveness."
Well, we know where Acho came from while praising McCoy over Smith. With 4.52 yards per carry over his career, McCoy ranks eighth in NFL history among running backs with 2,000 or more attempts. He also boasts a higher average than 29 Hall of Fame running backs, including Smith, and other legends like Walter Payton, Marshall Faulk, among others.
So, Irvin acknowledges that McCoy may have been better at making defenders miss with quick cuts. At the same time, while making defenders miss is impressive, it isn't the only quality that determines a running back's value. That's when Irvin took a stronger stand for Smith.
The former Cowboys running back's ability to stay healthy, absorb hits, and remain on his feet through contact was more important. If the accolades are kept out of the conversation, the stats show a clear picture in favor of Smith.

Three years after playing in Florida, he wrapped up his college chapter with 3,928 yards and 36 touchdowns on 700 rushing attempts. Cut to McCoy, his two-year Pitt Panthers run ended with 2,816 yards and 35 touchdowns on 584 rushing attempts.
Fast forward to the NFL, Smith racked up 18,355 yards and 164 touchdowns on 4,409 attempts in 15 years. For McCoy, it was a 12-year run when he came up with 11,102 yards and 73 touchdowns on 2,457 attempts.
So, more career carries and seasons demonstrate longevity and workload capacity, not necessarily better injury resistance.
Smith was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010, while McCoy is still on the waiting list to earn the honor.

Meanwhile, despite their playing days being long behind them, Irvin still came to Smith's defense, reflecting the brotherly bond they share.
"Deion, Emmitt and Troy are my boys to this day," Irvin said during an episode of the Undisputed podcast in 2024. "Every day, we're texting and calling and talking about how much we love each other, so they're great friends, and I need them and love them."
