It looks like it will be a snow game at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.
Messy weather is expected for the AFC Division game between the New England Patriots and Houston Texans . Accuweather predicts a 68% chance of snow at 3 p.m. when the game kicks off with a winter weather advisory in effect.
By 4 p.m., that chance increases to 83% and stays around that range for the next several hours.
Sunday’s forecast shows it will be 36º at kickoff with wind gusts up to 9mph beginning at 5 p.m.
Snow totals could range from 3-6 inches.
While Sunday’s forecast doesn’t predict the temperatures to dip below 32°, the Texans have only played two outdoor games at freezing or sub-freezing temperatures this season — a win against the Kansas City Chiefs and last week’s AFC Wild Card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers .
The Patriots have had some memorable playoff games in the snow, including the “ Snow Bowl ” in 2001 when New England defeated the Raiders in overtime on an Adam Vinatieri field goal.
