Leeds United could struggle to sign Nicolo Tresoldi given the level of competition for his signature, sources have told Football Insider.
Daniel Farke is determined to add a new striker to his squad in the January transfer window, and the 22-year-old has emerged as a leading candidate for the position.
The Club Brugge forward has shone for the Belgian outfit so far this season, including in the Champions League where he scored a hattrick against AC Milan.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Leeds will face competition from Europe's elite clubs in their efforts to sign Tresoldi.
Club Brugge are extremely reluctant to let the striker go in January, in what will already be a blow to Leeds' plans, and they may now be forced to assess other targets instead.
Scouts are keeping a close eye on Tresoldi's performances, and they could be tempted to join their rivals in the race, but there is a feeling they would likely miss out.
Could Leeds make a move to sign Nicolo Tresoldi?
Football Insiderrevealed on 23 October that Leeds are interested in a move to sign Tresoldi and could make efforts to bring him to the club in the near future.
Whether it happens in January, or more likely next summer, they are extremely keen to bring the striker to Elland Road and see him as an upgrade on their current options.
Tresoldi's performances in Belgium and in the Champions League have impressed a number of rival clubs, however, meaning Leeds could be set to miss out.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "I'm sure there'll be a lot of clubs looking at Tresoldi, it won't just be Leeds United.
"Club Brugge aren't entertaining any potential departure for Tresoldi, definitely not in the January window, but If he continues his exploits , I'm sure there'll be a number of clubs looking at him.
"Leeds, as you said, are in the market for strikers, so he's somebody who's on their radar, but I think there'll be a lot of top clubs also watching him.
"There will be clubs with European aspirations, who could offer him potential Champions League football and everything else, who will be looking at Tresoldi as well.
"He does look one of the best young strikers in Europe right now, but that means it could be a difficult deal for Leeds to pull off."
Sources: Leeds accelerate Nicolo Tresoldi deal after what scouts saw Rennes respond as Leeds and Everton set sights on Esteban Lepaul Which other strikers are on Leeds' radar?
Tresoldi is not the only striker on Leeds' radar ahead of the January transfer window, as they hope to accelerate plans to strengthen up front as soon as possible,
Farke is determined to sign a new striker to provide competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with Lukas Nmecha currently the only other striker in his squad.
As a result, Football Insiderrevealed on 14 October that Leeds are plotting a move to sign Rennes striker Esteban Lepaul, who is firmly on their radar as things stand.
The striker has impressed watching scouts in Ligue 1, but Rennes are determined to keep hold of him as a result of those displays, and it may be tough to land him.
Everton are also interested in signing Lepaul and could compete with Leeds should they make a move, with scouts continuing to track his performances.
