The Southern University Jaguars will head out on the road to challenge the Houston Cougars Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET at TDECU Stadium (Houston). Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Southern University relied on the efforts of running back Trey Holly, who rushed for 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and quarterback Christian Johnson , who threw for 200 yards and two TDs. Holly's performance was a nice bounce back after a down outing against the Alabama State Hornets in the season opener.
Southern University was charging into the backfield all evening and finished the game with five sacks. They have not posted that many sacks since Sept. 21, 2024, when they notched seven vs. Prairie View A&M.
Meanwhile, Houston took care of business in their home opener in Week 1. They walked away with a 33-20 victory over the Oregon State Beavers . The win is more of the same for the Cougars, who have now won three games in a row dating back to last season.

Houston's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but quarterback Conner Weigman led the charge by throwing for 305 yards and one touchdown (one INT), while also punching in one score on the ground. The 305 passing yards were his most since Nov. 1, when he passed for 309 vs. West Virginia . Receiver Amare Thomas was Weigman's top target, picking up 133 receiving yards and one TD.
Another reason for the win was Houston's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was defensive back Javion White with two.
