KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Winger Calvin Harris scored the game-tying goal against rivals, St. Louis City SC – a goal that would mark Sporting's 1,000th home goal across all competitions.
Sporting KC was trailing 1-0 going into the half, but 10 minutes into the second half is all it took for Kansas City to respond and find the back of the net.
Forward Taylor Calheira found himself driving through the middle before slipping the ball through to Harris, who got it onto his left and hit the inside of the post to tie up the match.
"It was a great play from everyone involved," Harris said to the media after the match. "Taylor (Calheira) puts it on a plate just like he did a few days ago as well in Colorado and this time it finds the other side of the post."
The historic goal was briefly called back for offsides, but after a VAR review, the call was reversed and the club would solidify the milestone and record its 1,000th home goal across all competitions.
Harris was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 21, an honor given for his contribution and performance to salvage a point against the rivals on Wednesday.
The match would end in a 1-1 draw meaning St. Louis City is yet to pull a win against Sporting KC at Sporting Park.
The club returns to action on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 6 p.m. when the team will hit the road to face off against Atlanta United .
