On Wednesday, the Spurs announced they had re-signed former Tiger David Jones-García to another two-way contract. Jones-García, who went by David Jones in college, spent most of the 2025 season on a two-way contract with the Spurs after spending time with the Philadelphia 76ers , Mexico City Capitanes and the Salt Lake City Stars.
Jones-García started his college career at DePaul, where he spent two seasons. In that time, he appeared in 37 games, making 28 starts, and he averaged 12.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.
After two seasons at DePaul, the wing transferred to St. John's, but he only spent one season in New York with the Red Storm. In his lone season under Mike Anderson, he averaged 13.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 31 games, including 17 starts.
He entered the transfer portal again after the 2022-23 season and landed at Memphis. He quickly became an X-factor for Penny Hardaway and the Tigers. He averaged 21.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.2 steals in 32 starts, and he shot 38 percent from deep.
Jones-García recorded 30 or more points in four games, including a 36-point performance in an 84-79 win over Arkansas in the Battle 4 Atlantis.
He had the opportunity to return to Memphis for a final season, but elected to turn pro and enter the 2024 NBA Draft. He went undrafted but signed a two-way contract with the 76ers on July 22, 2024.
He spent the 2024 Summer League with the 76ers, but he was waived by the team in September.
In October, he signed with the Mexico City Capitanes, a G-League team that doesn't have an NBA affiliation. He averaged 21.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists in four games with the Capitanes before being signed to a two-way contract by the Utah Jazz .
Jones-García spent more than a month with Utah before the Jazz decided to waive him on New Year's Day. He returned to Mexico City and finished the year with them.
The wing joined the Spurs ahead of the 2025 Summer League, and he was named to the All-Summer League First Team before being signed to a two-way contract.
During the 2025-26 season, he appeared in 11 games with the Spurs and averaged 2.9 points, 1.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and shot 60 percent from deep. He played in 16 games with the Austin Spurs, and he averaged 26.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.1 blocks in 32.7 minutes per game.
In February, he was sidelined with an ankle injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Despite the injury, the Spurs like what they see in Jones-García and will bring him back for the 2026-27 season.
