The Dallas Stars are in a bind with Jason Robertson, who denied a trade to the Seattle Kraken on Thursday. The 40-goal scorer needs a new contract as a restricted free agent, but would not go to Seattle. Late on Thursday night, Daily FaceOff's Jeff Marek reported that Robertson also denied a trade to the St Louis Blues.

"Sources indicating the St Louis Blues offered a package that included multiple first round picks to the Dallas Stars for Jason Robertson but he is not interested in signing there," Marek reported.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on 32 Thoughts that Robertson denied the Seattle trade "because of the destination." That indicates that it was not the $120 million contract that turned him away from that deal. Teams are willing to pay first-round selections to get Robertson, but he is not going to go just anywhere.
Reports have surfaced that the Stars are uncomfortable making Robertson their highest-paid player . That caps his potential earnings in Dallas at $12.5 million per year. While the Blues' contract offer has not been revealed, the Kraken deal was much richer than that, between $14-15 million.
The Blues have torn down their team over the past three months. They got a first-round pick in three seperate trades, one for Jordan Kyrou, one for Brayden Schenn, and one for Justin Faulk. With four first-rounders in Friday's draft, they have capital to spend. They tried to land this summer's biggest fish, but to no avail.

Robertson did not make Team USA for the 2026 Olympics, but he is running the playbook those stars have developed. He is picking his spot carefully and won't go just anywhere. That could lead to a lesser trade return for the Stars based on how much leverage they have.
