The Pittsburgh Steelers have invited Penn State punter Gabriel Nwosu to their rookie minicamp, according to Senior Specialist All-Star Game on X .
To say the least, Nwosu is massive for a punter, standing at 6-foot-6, 313 pounds. Nwosu had a standout season for the Nittany Lions last season with 15 of his 38 attempts being pinned within the 20 yard line. He averaged 46 yards per punt in his lone season as a punter. Against Michigan State, Nwosu booted a career-long 68-yard punt.
Nwosou was Penn State’s kickoff specialist from 2023-2025. He made two tackles in kickoff coverage last season. Of his 74 kickoffs, 36 went for touchbacks.
Nwosou received third-team All-Big Ten honors by the coaches and All-Big Ten honorable mention by the media last season.
Nwosu, who’s a Dearborn, Michigan native was a five-star kicking and punting recruit by Kohl’s Kicking in high school. He starred at The Bullis School in Maryland.
“It’s a blessing being able to not experience it alone, but experience with your brothers too,” Nwosu said at Penn State Pro Day, referencing long snapper Tyler Duzansky and punter Riley Thompson, via The Daily Collegian . “There’s not too many specialist rooms in America that are able to do what we’ve done, so it’s been a blessing to do that.”
Nwosu is the second reported player to have been invited to the Steelers’ rookie minicamp, joining Navy running back Alex Tecza . The Steelers’ rookie minicamp will take place on May 8-10 at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
