New Orleans Saints tight ends coach Chase Haslett interviewed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday for a passing game coordinator position, but he will instead return to the Saints, according to a report by Jordan Schultz.
The Steelers requested and completed an interview with Haslett to be the team's tight ends coach and passing game coordinator, along with interviewing Saints quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien for Pittsburgh's offense coordinator job. Tolzien also decided to stay with the Saints .
An IUP alum, Haslett coached under McCarthy in Dallas from 2020-24, starting out as quality control coach and has worked his way up.
Haslett is the son of former Steelers defensive coordinator and Saints head coach Jim Haslett. McCarthy worked under Haslett as the Saints' offensive coordinator from 2000-04. Jim Haslett, who's a Pittsburgh native, was the Steelers' defensive coordinator under Bill Cowher from 1997-99.
Chase Haslett, 33, was a walk-on at Illinois. He was on the roster from 2011 to 2013, but did not see any game action. In 2014, he transferred to IUP, the same school that his dad starred at as a linebacker in the 1970s. Chase Haslett played in sixteen games in 2014 and 2015 as a quarterback under head coach Curt Cignetti, who's now the head coach at Indiana. Curt Cignetti's brother, Frank Cignetti Jr. , is reportedly joining McCarthy's offensive staff.
After finishing his playing career at IUP, Haslett joined Nebraska as a graduate assistant in 2016. He then moved on to Mississippi State as a graduate assistant before landing a tight ends coaching position at Mercer.
He spent one season at Mercer before getting his first job in the NFL under McCarthy in Dallas. Haslett served as a offensive quality control coach (2020-22), assistant tight ends coach (2023) and pass game specialist (2024) during his time with the Cowboys. In February 2025, Haslett joined the Saints as their tight ends coach.
The Steelers have not had any reported interest in any other tight ends coaches or offensive passing game coordinators.
