The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially announced that Aaron Rodgers will return for the 2026 season, finally putting an end to months of speculation surrounding the future of the future Hall of Fame quarterback.
Unlike last offseason, when Rodgers' decision dragged deep into June and left the organization waiting throughout OTAs, this agreement comes much earlier and gives Pittsburgh far more clarity heading into the summer. For a team entering a new era under Mike McCarthy, having its starting quarterback in place before camp is a major step toward building continuity offensively.
Rodgers, now 42 years old, will receive a significant raise on his new deal. The contract includes $22 million guaranteed with the opportunity to earn up to $25 million through incentives, signaling that despite his age the Steelers still believe he gives them their best chance to compete in the AFC.
And while Pittsburgh once again failed to win a playoff game last season, Rodgers still provided the organization with its best quarterback play since Ben Roethlisberger . The Steelers captured their first AFC North title since 2020 and Rodgers brought a level of calmness, efficiency, and late-game execution the offense had lacked for years.

Statistically, Rodgers was far from washed. He finished 15th in the NFL in passing yards and posted an impressive 24-to-7 touchdown-to-interception ratio, proving he could still protect the football while operating efficiently within the offense. Even if he is no longer the MVP-level player he once was physically, he still showed flashes of elite processing, pocket control, and situational football throughout the season.
Now Rodgers returns for his 22nd NFL season and will reunite with longtime former Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy, creating one of the biggest storylines entering the year. The familiarity between the two could play a major role in helping the Steelers offense take another step forward.
Throughout the offseason there was constant speculation surrounding Rodgers' future, as there always seems to be whenever his name is involved. Some believed retirement was on the table. Others floated rumors about a possible return to Green Bay or even the idea of Rodgers walking away from football entirely.
Despite all the outside noise, however, the Steelers themselves never appeared overly concerned. Internally, there always seemed to be confidence that Rodgers would eventually return. Signs quietly pointed in that direction as well, considering Rodgers never cleaned out his locker and never put his Pittsburgh home up for sale during the offseason.
Even though nothing has officially been announced regarding retirement, it is difficult not to view this upcoming season as Rodgers' final ride. At 42 years old, entering Year 22, the reality is that the window is closing quickly.
That urgency now shifts directly onto the Steelers organization. Pittsburgh has pushed its chips further into the middle of the table once again, hoping Rodgers can help finally get them over the hump in January. Whether that happens remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the expectations, pressure, and attention surrounding the Steelers just went to another level.
