For much of the last two months, the narrative was about whether or not Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers would be willing to come back and sign another contract with Pittsburgh in the offseason. The way Rodgers gushed about playing for Mike Tomlin it felt like the Steelers would have a great shot to get Rodgers to re-sign.
Then Tomlin decided he didn't want to coach anymore. On Tuesday, Tomlin met with Steelers President Art Rooney II and while Rooney thought it was a meeting about next season, Tomlin voluntarily stepped away from the team. When Rooney spoke to the media on Wednesday, he was asked about Rodgers and his potential return.
"Aaron came here to play for Mike (Tomlin). So it will most likely affect his decision," Rooney said.
In other words, without Tomlin as the head coach, there's no shot at the Steelers re-signing Rodgers. This means that in 2026, the Steelers will have their sixth different starting quarterback in Week One, going back to Ben Roethlisberger in 2021.
