The Green Bay Packers have an offensive line concern after starting center Sean Rhyan suffered an ankle injury during Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Detroit Lions.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Rhyan is believed to have sustained a high-ankle sprain. His X-rays were negative, but he was scheduled for an MRI to determine the injury's full extent.
High-ankle sprains often require four to six weeks to heal, Rapoport noted. That is a possible recovery window, not a confirmed timeline for Rhyan.
Rhyan exited in the first quarter and did not return. Backup center Jacob Monk also left with a quadriceps injury, forcing John Williams to finish the game at center.
The injuries leave Green Bay scrambling to prepare for Thursday night's matchup with the Carolina Panthers. Head coach Matt LaFleur must find a reliable option in the middle of the line on a short week.
Rhyan has started every game at center this season after moving from guard. His role includes coordinating blocking assignments and identifying defensive pressure before the snap. Losing that experience could affect pass protection for Jordan Love and the running game.
Williams could be in line for an expanded role if Rhyan and Monk are unavailable. However, the Packers had not announced a replacement when Rapoport shared the injury update.

Green Bay has little time to regroup after its loss to Detroit. LaFleur and his coaching staff must prepare the offensive line to adjust quickly against Carolina, especially if the team is without its top two centers.
Negative X-rays are encouraging, but they do not rule out a significant ligament injury. The MRI should provide a clearer picture of Rhyan's condition and likely recovery.
For now, the Packers face uncertainty at a critical position. A four-to-six-week absence is possible with a high-ankle sprain, but Rhyan's timeline depends on the medical evaluation.
