TCU didn't just lose its season opener to North Carolina. The Horned Frogs gave themselves an offensive problem to solve before Big 12 play ever begins.
The 15-10 loss in Dublin left Sonny Dykes' team 0-1 and immediately shifted attention toward quarterback Jaden Craig, offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis and an attack that never found a consistent rhythm.

TCU failed to score in three consecutive quarters and managed only one touchdown despite getting a strong rushing performance from Jeremy Payne.
Craig completed 20 of 32 passes for 175 yards but was repeatedly under pressure and finished with minus-22 rushing yards. TCU's offense never produced the kind of explosive passing game that has traditionally defined Dykes' best teams.
Payne was the bright spot.
The running back carried 25 times for 142 yards, giving TCU a reliable ground game even while the rest of the offense struggled.
But North Carolina adjusted after halftime, holding the Frogs to just 26 rushing yards in the second half.
That's where the concern starts.
TCU can't afford to become one-dimensional, especially with conference play approaching.
The offensive line has to protect Craig better, the passing game needs more vertical production, and the Frogs have to stop sabotaging themselves.
They were flagged 11 times for 100 yards against North Carolina, and those mistakes repeatedly killed momentum.
That makes the Sept. 12 home opener against Grambling State more important than the matchup might suggest.
TCU should have a significant talent advantage. This isn't about whether the Frogs can survive Grambling. It's about whether the offense can look functional, confident and dangerous again.
Dykes needs cleaner quarterback play. He needs his receivers to create separation. He needs the offensive line to stop allowing negative plays to derail drives.
Most of all, TCU needs to look like a team that learned something from Dublin.
After Grambling comes Arkansas State, followed by a road trip to UCF to begin Big 12 play. The runway for fixing things is short.

A 0-1 start doesn't wreck a season.
But if TCU's offense still looks stuck against Grambling, the questions around Dykes and this team are going to get much louder.
