Tennessee basketball player Nate Ament was named SEC Co-player of the Week on Monday.
Ament, a freshman forward for the Vols, shared the honor with Auburn's Keyshawn Hall. The SEC Freshman of the Week honor, which Ament has claimed three times this season went to Arkansas' Darius Acuff Jr.
In Tennessee's lone game last week, Ament led all scorers with a career-high 29 points in a, 79-73, victory over Alabama Saturday at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He converted 10-of-20 field goal attempts, 2-for-3 three-point attempts and 7-of-9 free throw attempts. Ament also totaled seven rebounds and three assists against the Crimson Tide.
Ament became the sixth SEC freshman in the last 20 years (2020-26) to record 29 points, seven rebounds and three assists in a game, joining Tre Johnson, Anthony Edwards, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Ben Simmons (twice) and Terrence Jones.
Ament, a Manassas, Virginia native, scored 18 points in the second half at Alabama, helping the Vols overcome an early 10-point deficit in the contest. He is the fourth Tennessee freshman to earn SEC Player of the Week honors, joining Jarnell Stokes (March 5, 2012), Tony Harris (Feb. 5, 1998) and Allan Houston (Feb. 11, 1990).
Ament is the second Tennessee player to win the SEC Player of the Week honors this season. Ja'Kobi Gillespie earned the award on Dec. 22.
