The Houston Texans have talent all over their roster and loads of potential. The team has arguably the best defense in the NFL, headlined by a pass-rushing duo of Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter , along with one of the best cornerbacks in the league, Derek Stingley . All three players have a case as one of the 50 best players in the NFL . Houston also has C.J. Stroud leading the offense, a recent number two overall pick who was responsible for one of the greatest rookie seasons ever not that long ago.
Unfortunately, a few things have held Houston back. For starters, they just can't seem to buck the injury bug. Furthermore, the offensive line has stood out as a weak spot. Both of those factors look even worse now, as offseason addition Braden Smith was just carted off the field during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers .
The former Indianapolis Colts player signed for two years and $20 million, and he was slated to start at right tackle this season. Now, his immediate future is in doubt. Amazingly, during the same play, Ali Gaye also suffered a lower leg injury and was carted off with Smith, according to James Palmer.

Houston's bad injury luck continued just days after news broke that Jayden Higgins tore his ACL and will miss the entire season. The receiver from Iowa State was primed for a breakout sophomore season as a big-bodied target for Stroud. As of now, it is unclear what the extent of Smith and Gaye's injuries are, but Texans' fans will be holding their breath that an already unfortunate training camp won't get too much worse.
