- Texas A&M to expand spring practice media access ahead of 2026 season
Time moves fast in college football, and with it comes change—some subtle, some significant. For Texas A&M fans, one of the first meaningful shifts of the 2026 offseason is already here. More access, more transparency, and more insight into what Mike Elko's third Aggie squad will look like this spring.
On Friday, it was reported that Texas A&M will open five spring practices to the media ahead of the annual Maroon & White Game . It's a notable departure from previous seasons, when access was far more limited. In today's era of social media, real‑time updates, and nonstop fan engagement, even a small increase in visibility can dramatically expand the content pipeline.

Carter Karels of GigEm247 was among the first to praise the move , calling it a win for both the program and the people who cover it.
"I've long advocated for more practice access. Some might not care much, but when done right, it helps everybody: the media learns more about the team/produces better content (which is great for the fans), and the program/players get more exposure + better/more accurate coverage."
The decision reflects a broader balancing act in College Station. There's always been a tug‑of‑war between honoring the deep traditions of Aggieland and embracing the modern realities of college football with NIL, the transfer portal, and the demand for constant information. Elko has shown a rare ability to bridge those worlds. In just a short time, he's established himself as a true culture‑builder, someone who respects the program's identity while pushing it forward.
Opening practices won't change the trajectory of the season on its own, but it does signal something important: confidence, openness, and a belief that the product on the field can speak for itself. For fans eager to see how the 2026 roster is taking shape, this spring will offer more clarity and more content than ever.
