Texas Tech football faced a serious scare in last Saturday night's 35-24 road win over Oregon State , but perhaps the team would have looked sharper if it was not missing important players on both sides of the ball. Red Raiders tight end Terrance Carter and edge rusher Trey White were both out of action against the Beavers, leaving fans to wonder what their status will be heading into Friday's Big 12 clash with No. 22 Houston. There is optimism.
Carter and White are expected to be game-time decisions , according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. The former is nursing a foot injury, and the latter has yet to make his Texas Tech debut due to a knee issue. They each have considerable value to add, so fans will want to track their progress throughout the week.
Carter, who totaled three receptions for 28 yards versus Abilene Christian on Sept. 5, enjoyed an impressive first year in Lubbock after transferring from Louisiana. He recorded 55 catches for 624 yards and five touchdowns, becoming one of the Red Raiders' most effective pass-catchers. That should remain the case in 2026. Will Hammond could use a security blanket against a dangerous Cougars squad, and a healthy Terrance Carter could be up to the task.

Fellow redshirt senior Trey White aims to fill that role on defense. He posted 19.5 sacks and 29 tackles for loss in the previous two years combined for San Diego State and could be an X-factor for a program that is trying to replace the pass-rushing production left behind by David Bailey and Romello Height. A huge outing versus Houston would be a mighty fine way to formally introduce himself to the Texas Tech football community.
The No. 13 Red Raiders are hoping both of these men can suit up and bring it inside Galaxy Stadium.
